Imago Mundi - Luciano Benetton Collection
Texts by Luciano Benetton, Tsugu Tamenaga , Akira Tatehata
Elegance, refinement and emotion in a mosaic that reflects a country where the harmonious wellbeing of the whole is more highly valued than individual affirmation. The small format of the works created for this collection by 207 established and emerging artists reflects a peculiarity of Japanese culture: the recognition of beauty in small things - in bonsai and haiku, just as in hi-tech - and the ability to extract the essence of things, compacting their form.
Alongside internationally contemporary artwork sits the work of calligraphers, a tradition that in the East constitutes a central and integral part of painting.
Contemporary Japanese Artists is an Imago Mundi collection, a cultural, democratic, global, non-profit project, promoted by Luciano Benetton with the aim of creating the widest possible mapping of the different contemporary artistic experiences of our world. Each country is represented by more than 200 works from established and emerging artists, whose only constraint is the 10 x 12 cm format.
www.imagomundiart.com is the web platform of the entire project
