Art in Transition - Imago Mundi
Contemporary Artists from Guinea-Bissau/Guinea-Conakry
Imago Mundi - Luciano Benetton Collection
Texts by Luciano Benetton, Enrico Mascelloni, Felisberto Pereira Bobodjeu Ca (Botodjo), St. Peter Nyaga
A new African stage in Imago Mundi’s journey, with a collection dedicated to two countries bordering the Gulf of Guinea: the Republic of Guinea, also known as Guinea-Conakry and Guinea-Bissau. 140 works that give an aesthetically and morally honest account of a different land, full of vibrant colours, other bodies, a different sensuality: a beauty often shaped by nature, alive with spirit, linked to the primitive forces of existence. The bond between the artists and their common African land clearly emerges from the works that show the daily life of the villages, men and women at work, dancers, wild animals. Primal strength, lightness, ingenuity, irony and dignity. But also fear, uncertainty, illness and the inability to fully choose their own destiny.
Art in Transition. Contemporary Artists from Guinea-Bissau/Guinea-Conakry is an Imago Mundi collection, a cultural, democratic, global, non-profit project, promoted by Luciano Benetton with the aim of creating the widest possible mapping of the different contemporary artistic experiences of our world. In Imago Mundi, each country is represented by the works of established artists and new talents, commissioned with the maximum freedom of expression, whose only constraint is the 10x12 cm format.
