Beyond the Border - Imago Mundi
Contemporary Artists from Kuwait
Imago Mundi - Luciano Benetton Collection
Texts by Luciano Benetton, Moataz El Safty, Ahmed Jawher
Kuwait and its contemporary artistic reality: a vibrant and animated art scene, to which this Imago Mundi collection aims to give all the international visibility it deserves. The 140 artworks in the collection compose a shining world of inspiration and colour, just like the Kuwait flag that takes its chromatic significance from the poems of the thirteenth century poet Ṣafī al-Dīn al-Ḥilli: “White for our deeds; Black for our battles; Green for our lands; Red for the blood on our swords.” Landscapes, portraits, abstractions, identities, sensations, aspirations, fantasies, dreams; the works of the Kuwaiti artists often investigate and explore the border lines. Lines that, as true artists, they know how to surmount.
Beyond the Border. Contemporary Artists from Kuwait is an Imago Mundi collection, a cultural, democratic, global, non-profit project, promoted by Luciano Benetton with the aim of creating the widest possible mapping of the different contemporary artistic experiences of our world. In Imago Mundi, each country is represented by the works of established artists and new talents, commissioned with the maximum freedom of expression, whose only constraint is the 10x12 cm format.
