Contemporary Artists from Uruguay
Imago Mundi - Luciano Benetton Collection

Texts by Luciano Benetton, Maria Laura Mascelloni, Clemente Padín, Carlos Seveso

The figurative portrait of little Uruguay, a country founded on the migratory waves of the last three centuries and, today, a secular laboratory of modernity. 154 artworks, fruit of the work and creativity of as many contemporary artists, who together testify to the dynamism and continuous and positive process of transformation of the country to a democratic and fair society. In Uruguay, explains Maria Laura Mascelloni, curator of this surprising collection, “Art is a profession like any other, and the artist is asked to create art and amaze, to provoke or reflect, but always for the sake of art, and, of course, of the  community.”

Uruguay: A South Balcony. Contemporary Artists from Uruguay is an Imago Mundi collection, a cultural, democratic, global, non-profit project, promoted by Luciano Benetton with the aim of creating the widest possible mapping of the different contemporary artistic experiences of our world. In Imago Mundi, each country is represented by the works of established artists and new talents, commissioned with the maximum freedom of expression, whose only constraint is the 10x12 cm format.
