Contemporary Artists from Cameroon
Imago Mundi - Luciano Benetton Collection

Texts by Luciano Benetton, Enrico Mascelloni, Marilyn Douala-Bell Schaub

One hundred and forty different points of view: diverse, often polarized, languages offer a cross section of the world that has made them possible. One hundred and forty works by artists - young talents and established masters - that reveal the human and cultural geography of Cameroon, where more than 260 languages and a multitude of religions coexist. And where a line of convergence seems to bring together, not without contradictions, ancestral Africa, marked by a centuries-old history of conflict and inequality, and the Africa of the future, young, active and full of energy, that is facing the ambiguities of the world and globalized culture.

Elephants with Wings. Contemporary Artists from Cameroon is an Imago Mundi collection, a cultural, democratic, global, non-profit project, promoted by Luciano Benetton with the aim of creating the widest possible mapping of the different contemporary artistic experiences of our world. In Imago Mundi, each country is represented by the works of established artists and new talents, commissioned with the maximum freedom of expression, whose only constraint is the 10x12 cm format.
