Indonesian Islands of the Imagination - Imago Mundi
Contemporary Artists from Indonesia
Imago Mundi - Luciano Benetton Collection
Texts by Luciano Benetton, Antonius Kho, Mikke Susanto
More than 220 works that reveal a varied artistic panorama and testify to the vibrancy of a creative scene - diverse, powerful, stimulating – where there is still much to discover. The portrait of Indonesia, of its extraordinary anthropological and environmental mix, of a culture with secular traditions and a multitude of influences: Indian, Arabic, Chinese, Malaysian and European. While preserving their historical memory, the Indonesian artists give voice and form to uncertainties and current problems in order to go beyond the vast boundaries of the world’s largest archipelago and reach the fertile land of the imagination, a place to bring together past and present, modernity and tradition, West and East.
Indonesian Islands of the Imagination is an Imago Mundi collection, a cultural, democratic, global, non-profit project, promoted by Luciano Benetton with the aim of creating the widest possible mapping of the different contemporary artistic experiences of our world. In Imago Mundi, each country is represented by the works of established artists and new talents, commissioned with the maximum freedom of expression, whose only constraint is the 10x12 cm format.
