Imago Mundi - Luciano Benetton Collection
Texts by Luciano Benetton, Thomas Desiree Chibambo, Mike Chilemba, Gilbert Mpakule
140 works that bear witness to the creative process of an artistic community -young like the country to which it belongs, where the average age is barely 16 – on a journey towards a new and conscious discovery of its culture. Imago Mundi visits the 'warm heart of Africa' and makes a stop in the small country of Malawi, nestled between Mozambique, Tanzania and Zambia, bringing to light a centuries-old pictorial tradition whose roots lie in ancient rock paintings dating back more 2500 years. A unique collection that welcomes the powerful invitation of the Malawian artists - in their images, figurative or abstract, in their extraordinary colors, in the splendid visual tales of the highlands, wild savannas, rivers, forests, bodies of crystal water - to search within ourselves, to commit, to take a personal look and more.
Malawi: Warm Heart of Africa is an Imago Mundi collection, a cultural, democratic, global, non-profit project, promoted by Luciano Benetton with the aim of creating the widest possible mapping of the different contemporary artistic experiences of our world. In Imago Mundi, each country is represented by the works of established artists and new talents, commissioned with the maximum freedom of expression, whose only constraint is the 10x12 cm format.
www.imagomundiart.com is the web platform of the entire project.
