Imago Mundi - Luciano Benetton Collection
Texts by Luciano Benetton, Diego Cortez, Miranda Lash, Ta-Nehisi Coates, Richard Campanella, John Barry, William A. Darity Jr., Alan A. Aja, Darrick Hamilton and Dania V. Francis
An extraordinary collection curated by Diego Cortez: almost 200 works by artists from New Orleans to pay tribute to a special city; a mix of cultural influences, African, Indian, Cajun and Creole, that survived the dramatic damage of Hurricane Katrina to once again become the capital of entertainment, of jazz music, and host to the famous Mardi Gras carnival. Imago Mundi devotes a leg of its journey to this magical city where, in the words of Bob Dylan, "around any corner, there's a promise of something daring and ideal and things are just getting going." A collection of works packed with energy, simultaneously conveying commitment and transgression, sin and atonement, provocation and reflection, paganism and religion, the American dream and real substance, artistic influences and memories of Africa, scepticism and commitment to a better society.
Reparation is an Imago Mundi collection, a cultural, democratic, global, non-profit project, promoted by Luciano Benetton with the aim of creating the widest possible mapping of the different contemporary artistic experiences of our world. In Imago Mundi, each country is represented by the works of established artists and new talents, commissioned with the maximum freedom of expression, whose only constraint is the 10x12cm format.
